National Dying to Know Day 2026

Organise by Subiaco Library and Karin Ulrich

Join Karin Ulrich, an End of Life Doula, for an interactive workshop on end-of-life planning, legacy and what matters most.

Dying to Know Day is a national initiative that encourages Australians to prepare for the inevitable—not with fear, but with purpose, connection, and a sense of legacy.
Although death is a universal experience, many of us find it difficult to talk about. In fact, only 53% of Australians feel comfortable discussing end-of-life wishes with their family. This workshop offers a welcoming, safe, and respectful space to hold these important conversations, learn about available options, and consider what matters most to us and those we love. Through a gentle and interactive exercise, participants will be invited to reflect on their personal experiences with death, dying, and loss by writing a short story. Using this story as a guide, they will create a life timeline consisting of 10 stages of life and explore how experiences of loss, change, and grief have shaped their values, perspectives, and understanding of life.
